Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems across the GitLab platform.
• Drive technical strategy, architecture design, and roadmaps for core backend features and services.
• Write clean, highly performant, and well-tested code primarily in Ruby, Go, or related backend technologies.
• Collaborate with product managers, security engineers, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
• Mentor junior and senior engineers across the engineering organization to elevate code quality and architectural standards.
• Lead system performance tuning, profiling, and database query optimization for high-concurrency workloads.
• Establish engineering best practices, design patterns, and robust software development standards.
• Champion automated testing, continuous integration, and safe deployment strategies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and tooling to solve complex distributed systems challenges.
• Conduct in-depth technical design reviews and thorough peer code reviews.
