Behavioural Therapist Jobs in India

A Behavioural Therapist works with individuals — often children, adolescents, and adults with developmental or mental health conditions — to modify harmful or unproductive behaviours using evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

With growing awareness of mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions in India, Behavioural Therapists are increasingly sought after in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, special education institutions, and private practice.

What Does a Behavioural Therapist Do?

  • Conducting initial assessments to identify behavioural patterns and triggers
  • Designing individualized treatment plans based on patient needs
  • Implementing ABA, CBT, or DBT techniques to modify target behaviours
  • Working with children on the autism spectrum to develop social and communication skills
  • Collaborating with families, teachers, and other healthcare professionals
  • Tracking progress through data collection and behavioural metrics
  • Adjusting intervention strategies based on patient response
  • Maintaining clinical documentation and progress reports

Skills Required

  • Clinical: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), CBT, DBT, functional behaviour assessment
  • Assessment: Behavioural observation, standardized testing, progress monitoring
  • Communication: Patience, empathy, clear explanation of techniques to families
  • Documentation: Clinical notes, treatment plans, insurance documentation
  • Collaboration: Working with multidisciplinary teams (psychiatrists, OTs, speech therapists)

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • RCI registration (for Clinical Psychologists in India)
  • BCBA certification (preferred for ABA practitioners)
  • Specialized training in child development or special education (for paediatric roles)

Behavioural Therapist Salary in India

  • Entry-level (0-2 years): INR 3-6 lakhs per annum
  • Mid-level (3-5 years): INR 6-12 lakhs per annum
  • Senior/Specialist (5+ years): INR 12-20 lakhs per annum
  • Private Practice: Variable, INR 1,500-5,000 per session
