Key Responsibilities Backup & Maintenance -
- Define and enforce backup/restore policies (full, diff, and log).
- Run/automate maintenance plans: index rebuild/reorg, stats updates, DBCC CHECKDB. Perform restore tests and document RPO/RTO adherence. Jobs Monitoring Monitor SQL Server Agent jobs; triage and fix failures. Implement alerts and reporting (Agent, Database Mail, SCOM/Prometheus).
- Optimize schedules and job concurrency. Daily Health Checks Review error logs, wait stats, blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries. Track resource utilization (CPU, memory, IO, tempdb) and instance uptime. Ensure config baselines (MAXDOP, Cost Threshold, memory settings).Storage Management Manage data/log/tempdb growth and autogrowth settings .Capacity planning and filegroup/file layout optimization.
- C oordinate with infra for IOPS, latency, and backup storage needs.User & Security Management Provision users/roles; enforce least privilege and RBAC. Manage credentials, linked servers, encryption (TDE, TLS) and auditing.
- Support compliance (GDPR/PCI/SOX) and periodic access reviews. Fixing Job Failures Perform RCA, implement corrective/preventive actions. Standardize run-books and improve observability. Reduce MTTR with proactive checks and automation.
- Enhancing Existing FunctionalityTune queries, indexes, and stored procedures. Optimize schema design, partitioning, and compression .Automate routine tasks with T-SQL/Power Shell.
- Package Development & Delivery (SSIS/ETL)Build and maintain SSIS packages and data pipelines. Version, test, and deploy across environments (Dev/UAT/Prod).Ensure robust logging, retry logic, and documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
- 4+ years administering Microsoft SQL Server (2016+), including Always On AGs, Log Shipping, and Replication. Strong T-SQL, performance tuning (execution plans, wait stats), and indexing strategies. Hands-on with SQL Server Agent, SSIS, Database Mail, and maintenance automation.
- Security: RBAC, TDE, auditing, and compliance processes. Experience with monitoring tools (native DMVs, SCOM, SolarWinds, Redgate, or equivalent).
- Familiarity in managing Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance (sizing, replication)/ Configure backups, PITR, and failover groups
